The application of Absorber UV protection prevents ultraviolet rays from being absorbed by the polycarbonate causing its rapid degradation with consequent yellowing and increased brittleness of the exposed surface. The application of UV protection with the coextrusion technique allows the creation of a homogeneous shielding layer against the ultraviolet component of solar radiation. This technique prevents the UV protection from being easily impaired by atmospheric agents or damaged due to incorrect maintenance.

This is quantified by means of a coefficient that for polycarbonate assumes a value of 0.065 mm/m °C. The high value of this coefficient, with respect to the values of the materials normally used for roofs and enclosures (aluminum, steel, etc.), makes it necessary to provide solutions that compensate for their different thermal expansion, which is therefore an aspect to be considered in the design and construction application phases.
